A novella in which a 70 year old man undergoes triple bypass surgery; it is successful, but upon his recovery, he realizes he revisited the time of his young adulthood—not as mere memory, but as if he lives it vividly again. The story then immediately shifts to the events of that time, each chapter a unit in the life—his military experience, the women he met, others of interest, against the backdrop of the cold war of the time.

"Hearts"
Collab. Steven Evans. A science fiction novella, which may be predicting events of the near future. Two brilliant (women) oceanographers believe that they can find the answers to the origins of life deep in the volcanic vents of the Pacific Ocean. A billionaire agrees to fund their project, but they all too soon learn that the US military is part of this interest, as is Russian spies, these entities determining that the discovery could lead to the ultimate weapon. Schwartz’s military background and Evans’s genetic science background provide the work with non-stop adventure, and scientific integrity. Along with well developed characters (these women must find inner strengths they did not know they had, in order to survive the deep and the sea surface).

A middle-aged man determines to leave his home near the Ohio and Missouri Rivers in search of new-found adventures. Along the way, he takes in interesting and unusual women, who then become his companions-sexually and as friends. They encounter dangerous situations, meeting and escaping from danger numerous times in regular places as well as in national monuments. Indeed, one is reminded of Hitchkockian settings. The companions must use their wits and their physical training, eventually, to bring an evil force to its end in a highly dramatic climax at the Pacific Ocean’s edge near LA.
